The pedal loom is a weaving technique for working in large formats, introduced in Mexico after the Spanish conquest and originating in Egypt. The Mayans developed textiles since pre-Hispanic times and with the introduction of this tool, today artisans weave with natural fibers typical of the Yucatán peninsula such as henequen.
