The Ermita hanging lamp explores the possibilities of Jipijapa weaving and of the everyday objects that arise from this artisanal technique based on the circular form, such as tortilla warmers. The collection synthesizes the best of artisanal knowledge together with the vision of contemporary design. They were made in collaboration between designer Sterben Pinson and the artisans of the Jipijapa workshop during the Vision and Tradition residency of Design Week México and México Territorio Creativo. The jipijapa fabric, made from a plant native to the tropical areas of the American continent, began to appear in Campeche around the year 1800. Artisans collect the jip to prepare its fibers to obtain different thicknesses. This fiber is woven in a humid environment and the process depends on the fineness of the fabric, which can take from one week to one month.
